After spending four months in dry dock, I was really excited to see what had been going on with the latest changes to the Ultra. I had talked to the guys at the Fred Hall show, and signed up for the two-day Memorial Day weekend trip. This would be my 3rd trip with some of the same great anglers on this every year, and I was looking forward to fishing with them again. Captains Brian and Doug welcomed us on board Saturday night, and proudly showed off the recent set of improvements, on this, the second trip since getting the boat back in the water.
The first of those was brand new bait tanks. The outside is sleek and smooth. Each tank has a flush fitting lid. Over the top of all that is two huge fillet boards. The handwells are round and smooth, and just the right depth to hold a few baits, and be able to get your hand under them without getting your sleeve totally wet. The tanks are also lighted inside from the bottom, which I have read helps to keep the bait healthier and more lively.
Next was the totally redone galley! The old seating was completely torn out, as well as the cooking area. With new booths installed, there is now room for 10 passengers to sit down to eat quite comfortably. A flat screen TV is fed by DirectTV, with speakers out on to the deck for anglers to enjoy music, or listen to the play-by-play of their favorite sporting event.
