Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from the crew of the Ultra!

Are you wondering what the Ultra does during the offseason (winter)? We are commercial squid fishing off the Santa Barbara coast! We start in October, outfitting the Ultra with super powerful lights and move the boat up to Ventura Harbor. There we are out every night looking for squid and trying to get them to float with the lights. If all goes well, we call in a purse seiner (a boat equipped with a special net) which nets the squid and sells them to the market. The squid then gets packaged and sold to restaurants where it is used to make fried Calamari and other dishes.

In March we will have the Ultra in the shipyard where we will be re-powering the vessel with powerful, fuel efficient, electronic engines and completely remodeling the galley. We are even adding Satellite TV!

After that we will back at 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro for the spring white sea bass bite at Catalina, San Clemente and the Channel Islands. 22nd Street Landing is an awesome location because we are within range of almost all of the Souther California offshore islands making it that much easier to find the fish!

During summer of 2010, usually around July, we will be moving the Ultra down to Fishermans Landing in San Diego, California. Fishermans Landing is the premier long range landings for big game species such as yellowfin tuna, blue fin tuna, albacore and mahi mahi. Moving the boat down there during the peak of the season ensures that we will have you catching fish on your charter or open party trips! With an upcoming El Nino event in the works, this year should be outstanding!

We are currently booking for the 2010 season, please call 949-836-8085 early to ensure you get the dates you want. Prime dates such as weekends and holidays sell out fast, so does miss your chance!
