1.5 Day Overnight Sportfishing Charters

1 ½ day trips target the same areas as the overnight trips but offer two advantages: increased range and more fishing time! These trips give anglers a shot at the afternoon bite when the rest of the overnight boats have left the area and are headed home. Yellowtail, White Sea bass, Yellowfin and Bluefin tuna are all targeted on these trips. Areas fished include the outer banks, San Clemente and Catalina Islands and even Mexican waters depending upon the season and fishing conditions

With approximately 33hrs on the water, these trips allow the Ultra to go the distance, whether it be the Northern Baja California, Mexico banks that are outside of the range of the overnight boats or out to the Tanner or Cortez banks. When the Ultra fishes Santa Catalina, San Clemente or one of the Channel Islands, it gives anglers maximum time on the water, where the fish are!

A typical trip departs around 9:00pm of the day before the trip, fishes the whole next day: sunup to sundown, and returns approximately 6:00am the third day. For example, if the trip leaves Monday night, then Tuesday is a full day of fishing and we return on Wednesday morning.

Fishing Rod/ReelBring a 7-9ft graphite or glass rod for fly-lining smaller baits such as anchovies or very small sardines. Bring another 7-8 ft “step-up” rod for larger sardines, yo-yoing iron, or fishing a dropper loop on the bottom. This rod should be in the 25-40lb line test range. Optionally bring a longer “Jig Stick” for throwing surface iron when the Yellowtail are busting threw the chum line, but not eating hook baits. Although the Ultra always has trolling available on board, you are more than welcome to bring your own, just make sure it has 60-80lb test and preferable is a two-speed. Additionally, you may want to bring a heavier two-speed outfit with 50-60lb test, just in case a one-in-a-lifetime bite erupts on the large Bluefin tuna or Bigeye tuna!Terminal Tackle1/4-1oz egg sinkers, 2-6oz Torpedo Sinkers, #2-4/0 Live Bait Hooks. Premium hooks such as Owner, Mustad, or any other reputable brand.
