The Ultra's Charter and Open Party overnight trips (1 day) depart the night before, travel at night, and then began fishing at first light in most cases. They target big game on the outer banks, such as, the 60 Mile, the Farnsworth and Kidney banks or the offshore islands: San Clemente or Catalina Island. These trips give anglers a strong shot at Yellowtail, Tuna and White Sea bass.
Lasting approximately 22hrs, 1 Day overnight trips are the Ultra's most popular springtime trip! Departure is always the night before you fish on these trips. Typically you sleep in a cozy bunk on the way out to the fishing grounds and are awoken at first light to the smell of bacon, coffee and eggs for breakfast and the beginning of the days fishing adventure!
| Fishing Rod/Reel | Bring a 7-9ft graphite or glass rod for fly-lining smaller baits such as anchovies or very small sardines. Bring another 7-8 ft “step-up” rod for larger sardines, yo-yoing iron, or fishing a dropper loop on the bottom. This rod should be in the 25-40lb line test range. Optionally bring a longer “Jig Stick” for throwing surface iron when the Yellowtail are busting threw the chum line, but not eating hook baits. |
| Terminal Tackle | 1/4-1oz egg sinkers, 2-6oz Torpedo Sinkers, #2-2/0 Live Bait Hooks (bronze) |
| Fishing Line | 15-20lb and 25-40lb test |
| Lures | Surface iron such as Tady 45's and heavier jigs for yo-yo-ing for Yellowtail or Barracuda under bird schools . An assortment of 3-6inch swimbaits from Big Hammer, AA or equivalent. |
These trips target the best prospects of the season, either fishing Catalina Island, San Clemente Island when Yellowtail and White Sea bass are biting there or venturing offshore to the outer banks when Yellowfin tuna (Ahi), Bluefin tuna, Dorado (Mahi, Mahi) and Albacore are available!
