3/4 Day Sportfishing Charters

¾ day Charter fishing trips offer more range than ½ day trips and allowing the Ultra to fish Catalina Island or other offshore locales. It also allows for maximum time on the water when the Huntington Beach flats, the Horseshoe Kelp or San Onfre flats are holding fish.

Lasting approximately 9hrs, these trips typically depart at 6:30-7:00am and have you back at the dock between 3:30-4:30pm. The extra time on these trips equates to one of two things: further travel time to ensure you are fishing the best water or more time fishing the locations closer to port when those areas are holding fish. Sometimes its just that extra hour or two of travel or fishing time that makes the trip successful!

We encourage anglers to bring there own fishing tackle, but we also offer complete packages that include fishing rod and reel, tackle, and even help rigging up! If you decide to bring your own tackle, here is a list that includes the minimum requirement for ¾ Day fishing in Southern California on the Ultra:

Fishing Rod/ReelBring at least two rods: one for fly-lining live bait and throwing swim baits across the chum line and another step-rod for fishing iron (jigs), bottom fishing in heavy current or fly-lining sardines. Any 7-9ft inshore rod rated for 12-20lb test and another rod rated 20-40lb should suffice.
Terminal Tackle1/4-1oz egg sinkers, 2-6oz Torpedo Sinkers, #2-2/0 Live Bait Hooks (bronze)
Fishing Line12-40lb test
LuresSurface iron such as Tady 45's and heavier jigs for yo-yo-ing for Yellowtail or Barracuda under bird schools . An assortment of 3-6inch swimbaits from Big Hammer, AA or equivalent. Mojo's and Scampi's for Sand bass and Sculpin with ½ -2oz heads.

These trips offer much more diverse fishing locations and styles than the ½ Day trips. When conditions are right Yellowtail, White sea bass and Halibut can be targeted with a reasonable chance of an angler catching one of these prized and delicious fighters! On most trips anglers can count on Sand Bass, Calico Bass, Rockfish (Red Snapper), Barracuda, Bonita and Sheepshead to fill their sacks. Occasional during warm water El Nino years, offshore species such as Yellowfin tuna and Dorado are targeted, as well!
