Southern California's Premier Sportfishing Destination

The Ultra
The Ultra is a 50 foot sportfishing vessel, based out of Southern California that specializes in limited load, open party and charter sportfishing trips. Originally built in 1980 by Delta Marine of Seattle, Washington the Ultra was purchased by Brian Blair in 2000 and turned it into a sport-fishing machine!

After purchasing the the Ultra, Brian gutted and rebuilt the vessel from hull up replacing the engines, galley, electronics, air conditioning, bunk room, wheelhouse, etc. Focusing on making improvements that directly increase the fish-ability of the Ultra, he also added a refrigerated fish hold to keep your catch in this best possible condition, a 'slammer' for holding and curing bait on the longer 1 ½ Day to 2 ½ Day trips, larger and better originated bait tanks for keeping the bait fresh and frisky, a 360 degree scanning sonar, and improved navigation and communication electronics for safety and keeping up with key information from other boats, while on the water.

Open Party and Charter Season – April through September
After spending eight seasons at Newport Landing Sportfishing in Newport Beach, California, Brian decided to split the Ultras seasons between two different landings: 22nd Street Landing in San, Pedro California and Fisherman's Landing in San Diego, California. The reason for doing this was to provide customers with the best seasonal fishing available in Southern California.

During the late winter and spring months, White Sea Bass fishing is phenomenal at Catalina Island, San Clemente Island, Santa Barbara Islands and the Ultra targets them along with Yellowtail, Halibut, Calico Bass and Rockfish (Red Snapper) when in season. 22nd Street in San Pedro, California offers a centralized departure point for all of these places along with a world class sportfishing landing with a strong reputation for quality service.

In the early summer, the Ultra relocates to Fishermans's Landing in San Diego California in pursuit of offshore, big game species such as Albacore, Yellowfin tuna (ahi), Bluefin tuna, Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Yellowtail and Albacore. Fisherman's Landing is a world renowned landing for long range stand-up style fishing trips in pursuit of giant Yellowfin tuna and Wahoo in the banks off Southern Baja, Mexico as well as it's 1 Day and 1 ½ Day overnight fleet which fishes the Northern Baja California banks in search of smaller Yellowfin tuna, Bluefin tuna, Yellowtail, Albacore and Dorado (Mahi Mahi).

Off Season – October through March
During the 'off season' from October through March, the Ultra travels up and down the California coastline in pursuit of commercial squid. What is commercial squid fishing, one might ask? Commercial squid fishing is an important fishery off California's coastline during the Fall and Winter months. Called 'Market Squid', these mollusks are attracted to strongly lit vessels and then wrapped by purse seiners before being brought to port and sold primarily to markets in Asia, however Calamari is becoming increasing popular in the US as well.

After the squid fishing season ends, the Ultra is dry-docked for maintenance and improvements as we get ready for the next fishing season.
